Congratulations to Ed Painter - SafeTruck’s April 2015 Oversize Load Contest Winner!
Mr. Painter is owner / operator of ASAP Pilot Car Services located in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada. A former farmer and long-haul trucker, Mr. Painter understands what drivers need in pilot and escort operators. ASAP Pilot Car Services provides 24/7 pilot and escort car services in BC’s Lower Mainland, Western Canada and the North Western USA.
The winning picture is a chemical storage tank for Teck Resources Limited in Trail, BC, who operates a zinc and lead smelter and refinery. The storage tank was hauled from Kelowna, BC to Trail, BC, a distance of approximately 190 miles. Overall DIMS of the tank was 22’ in diameter, 16’ in height and 55,000 kilograms (or 121,250 pounds).
Mr. Painter told us, “For this particular run, we used four pilot cars with three lead, one trail, and we were spread out over several miles to stop oncoming traffic at safe pullouts. The highway we were required to use had very little shoulders so it was important that all oncoming traffic be stopped off the roadway. We equip all our pilot vehicles with extra load flags, OSL banners, staff flags and load warning lights. It is the regulations in several jurisdictions we travel in that each pilot vehicle carries a staff flag for each member of the team, including the driver of the oversize load tractor.”
On this haul, Mr. Painter used two SafeTruck mesh OSL banners. When asked where he buys his SafeTruck products, he said, “I have no particular place where I purchase my equipment, quite often it’s one of the larger truckstops on a route.”
Congratulations to Ed Painter of ASAP Pilot Car Services…. and thank you for sharing your successful heavy haul trip utilizing SafeTruck OSL banners and flags!
